At 78 years of age, Raprosy is an elder of Malagasy highland music, and he still does things the old fashioned way. When we went to collect this song from him, we were met in celebratory style, with smiles, hugs, drinks and an hour of improvised music. The music style is called horija which is traditionally sang by the mpiarakandro (the men who watch the cattle), and is full of stories and proverbs. Raprosy may be rooted in the past, but he keeps one foot in the future. He is happy to do modern collaborations (such as this one), and currently plays with the betsileo hip-hop group Oladad from track 2.
