Tiharea are a vocal trio who originate from rural southern Madagascar. They specialise in rhythmic beko songs from that region, but this track is a different piece of songcraft. It is a call out, asking for help for the people of the south and its environment, which suffers from terrible drought and swarms of locusts, which act together to devastate crops. The Government and much of the wealth of the country is situated in the highland areas and the North, and the political crisis which started in 2009 has made the situation even harder to manage. A new Government was finally elected in 2014, so hopefully Madagascar will now be witness to a new era of stability.
